Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected for a second five-year term as President of the European Union’s executive commission by the European Parliament.

This re-election offers a continuation of the status-quo for the 27-member bloc as it navigates multiple challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, migration, and housing shortages.
Von der Leyen, a German Christian Democrat, won the majority vote in the 720-seat parliament after delivering a speech in which she vowed to provide strong leadership for Europe amidst current crises and growing political polarisation.
