Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has leapt into first place as the UK’s most favourably viewed party leader, according to the latest More In Common approval tracker poll. Following a stunning performance in the recent local elections, Farage’s net approval rating now stands at -3, a significant jump that places him ahead of his rivals.

The Liberal Democrats’ Ed Davey trails closely with a net approval of -4, while Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Labour’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer lag far behind at -23 and -38, respectively. Farage’s rise comes on the heels of Reform UK’s unprecedented gains, securing 677 council seats and control of 10 local authorities, alongside a parliamentary by-election win in Runcorn and Helsby.

The More In Common tracker highlights Farage’s ability to capitalise on voter frustration with the traditional Labour-Conservative dominance, which crumbled in the face of Reform’s messaging. Political analysts suggest his gains reflect a growing disillusionment with Starmer’s government, which has faced criticism for its handling of economic and immigration issues, and Badenoch’s Conservatives, who suffered a “bloodbath” in the elections.

While Farage’s approval rating remains in negative territory, his lead over other leaders signals a seismic shift in the UK’s political landscape. As Reform UK cements its position as a major challenger, all eyes will be on whether Farage can sustain this momentum ahead of the next general election, expected by 2029.
