The Deputy Prime Minister, Angela Rayner, is reportedly being sidelined on key policy areas following Labour's overwhelming victory in the recent election. Allies of Rayner are concerned that she is being "frozen out" merely weeks into the new Labour government.

Is Angela Rayner being unfairly deprived of her responsibilities?

They believe that the Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary is being unfairly deprived of her responsibilities. Previously, Rayner had led Labour's initiative to reform workers' rights while the party was in opposition. However, the Business Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, and his department will now take charge of the flagship New Deal for Working People policy.

There are also rumours that Rayner may lose the planning brief after Chancellor Rachel Reeves highlighted it in her first significant speech upon assuming office at No 11. A source informed The Telegraph: “Angela has been frozen out of everything. She was sitting in the front row of a speech about her own department."

Friends of Rayner are encouraging her to increase her public presence. One of them commented: "Everyone has been looking busy – Wes, Ed and Rachel have all been out there doing things. Within a few days, she is already being frozen out of stuff, having parts of her brief taken off her – it is not a great start.”

Additionally, it has been noted that many members of Rayner’s shadow cabinet team were passed over for government positions. One issue contributing to Rayner's difficulties is the yet undefined role of the Deputy Prime Minister's office.
